  • Indiana-based Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union has chosen to deploy SAFremote Authenticator software from Saflink Corp., Bellvue, Wash., as part of the organization's continuing biometrics security rollout. The credit union plans to install software and fingerprint sensors at 150 workstations, essentially replacing passwords with fingerprints for network log-on.

  • Jersey Shore Medical Center, a 502-bed medical center in Neptune, N.J., has upgraded its analog video surveillance system to a digital platform from North American Video, Brick, N.J.

  • The Civil Air Patrol, the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, has chosen narrow band communication equipment from EFJohnson, Washington, D.C., which includes 5300 series digital mobile radios with wrap-around power supplies.

  • The Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas has chosen the Face ID software from ImageWare Systems Inc., San Diego, to create an interface that will allow the center to access the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's (LVMPD) repository of criminal data and images using facial recognition technology. Additionally, the Escondido Police Department in San Diego has implemented ImageWare's Crime Capture System for automated capture, storage, and retrieval of booking images and related information.

  • The City of Sacramento Public Works Department has installed “Locknetics on Board” CM locking products from IR Security and Safety's Electronic Access Control Division, Forestville, Conn., to integrate with its panic hardware, enhance credential compatibility, and provide secure access in areas where vandalism is a risk.

  • Chesterfield County (Va.) has implemented HandReaders from IR Recognition Systems, Campbell, Calif., the biometric component of Ingersoll-Rand's (IR) Security and Safety Group's Electronic Access Control Division, to provide off-hours access at the county's main administration building.

  • Kwik Trip Convenience Stores, with 310 convenience stores plus 47 tobacco outlets throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa, has standardized the company's digital CCTV surveillance with systems from GE Interlogix Video Systems Group, Corvallis, Ore., for store surveillance. Kwik Trip usually installs six cameras inside the typical convenience store, including one in the cooler to watch delivery people. Another two cameras, day/night models, are outside by the gas pumps and car wash.

  • The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a contract to Viisage Technology Inc., Littleton, Mass., to continue development of facial recognition solutions based on Viisage technology for use by government agencies. Additionally, a combined Viisage/ZN Vision Technologies identity verification system has been selected by the government of Alberta, Canada's drivers' license program.

  • New Zealand's ASB Bank has chosen to implement two-factor authentication software from RSA Security Inc., Bedford, Mass., to increase security for its Internet banking customers. Mercy Health Partners, Springfield, Ohio, which encompasses two acute care hospitals, four long-term care facilities and two retirement communities, among other facilities, has also implemented two-factor authentication from RSA.

  • Stuttgart Airport in Germany has chosen XES explosive detection systems from InVision Technologies Inc.'s Yxlon business unit, Newark, Calif. The new system in Stuttgart will be integrated into a multi-level checked baggage screening process and will be used to resolve alarms from upstream systems.

  • The Customs and Excise Department of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has selected two 2000 Series Large Vehicles Cargo X-ray Systems from Rapiscan Security Products Inc., Hawthorne, Calif., a subsidiary of OSI Systems Inc. The systems are currently in operation at Lok Ma Chau, one of the busiest boundary crossings in the world.
