The 48-story BankOne Tower in Indianapolis, the tallest building in Indiana, has selected surveillance and monitoring consoles from Middle Atlantic Products, Riverdale, N.J., to upgrade its security control center.

The Quiet-Cool Series consoles contain digital video recorders in place of analog VCRs; a matrix switcher in lieu of manual switching equipment; and three 20-inch monitors to replace old 9-inch screens. The consoles provide active thermal management, cable management and sound isolation capabilities.

The new digital video recorders within the surveillance system will be connected to the Tower's local area network, allowing key building personnel to monitor video signals from any network connection within the facility.

“Particularly with digital recorders, the noise factor has become a definite issue in security systems,” says Skip Sampson, integrated systems division manager for Koorsen Protection Services, the Indianapolis-based life safety and systems integration firm responsible for the installation.

“Because they are PC-based, fans are running and hard drives are chugging along. [The client should appreciate the consoles'] sound isolation capabilities.”
