Does it worry you that security is rarely the first department contacted when misconduct allegations surface? Are others in your organization equipped to handle the situation?
When allegations of inappropriate workplace behavior surface, the first corporate representatives notified are often not security professionals. Depending on the location of an incident, responders could be virtually any department in your company. In these cases, non-security responders may find themselves in the unfamiliar territory of assisting in or even executing an investigation. To calm your concern over the less-experienced handling of what you know might be a complex investigation, the Security Executive Council is offering business professionals a set of guidebooks to help them perform investigations of workplace misconduct.
“The Response to Misconduct Allegations” series by John D. Thompson provides practical guidance to non-security professionals who must play a role in investigations of inappropriate workplace behavior. Each of the five books focuses on response procedures from five different departments: auditing, human resources, compliance, IT, and facilities and building management. The books are step-by-step, easy-to-follow guides that include checklist tools and real-life examples of what the professional should and should not do when initiating and conducting investigations.
As a nationally recognized expert in the area of corporate security, legal risks and employment law, Thompson has served as a consultant on workplace violence, legal issues training, litigation services and related security problems to numerous Fortune 500 and smaller companies, as well as federal, state and local governments.
All five books are available in the Security Executive Council online store at http://www.csoexecutivecouncil.com/secstore?sourceCode=access
