The Solutions Navigator is a new approach to security strategic planning that applies a collaborative and interactive process to bring together representatives from various departments to quickly complete assessment and planning exercises. The data-driven planning process — which looks for all the -world like a board game - was created by Johnson Controls Inc.

In the Solutions Navigator, participants look at a standardized set of security-related areas to help them identify and prioritize their needs based on risk to the organization and how satisfied they are with the organization's ability to address it. The streamlined process enables the security director to engage a broad group of stakeholders at once and provides opportunity for open discussion.

The outcome of the Solutions Navigator game - er, process - is a report that includes summaries and an analysis of needs, practices and proficiencies. The report helps organizations create plans and develop a timeline for implementation, budget and allocate resources, and benchmark their current needs and practices against other organizations.

It can be challenging to gain support for new initiatives and upgrades. To that end, the collaborative process of Solutions Navigator is an effective way to gain support and momentum around the prioritized initiatives that are agreed upon by workshop participants.
