The majority of fraud schemes occurring within organizations are discovered through the receipt of employee tips, according to a recent report cited in “The Encyclopedia of Security Management” written by John J. Fay. While many organization leaders believe that an open-door policy sufficiently encourages employees to share concerns and information, research shows that the policies are not enough to ensure an organization is equipped with the necessary knowledge to prevent and detect corporate crime, misconduct and fraud. An anonymous reporting mechanism such as an employee hotline can serve as a protection measure, potentially reducing losses by as much as 50 percent. Source: “The Encyclopedia of Security Management” has been called an “abbreviated synthesis” of all previous works in the security industry dating back to 1957. Visit books.elsevier.com/security.
