Parking Problems Solved at Toronto Convention Centre

Looking for a way to automate and integrate its vehicle access control and revenue systems, officials at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) wanted a new system that provides additional payment options including high-speed credit card transactions.
“At MTCC we have a fairly complex situation with our parking facility, so we sent out a robust RFP to automate the system,” says MTCC vice president of operations Vince Quattrociocchi. “We deal with a lot of large conventions involving exhibitors, sponsors and attendees, and we also provide parking for large concerts and events within the area. They all have different requirements, so we knew we didn't have a standard list of objectives.”
Quattrociocchi turned to PARC Automation, Toronto, which used its PowerPads to help MTCC achieve its goal. PARC Automation provided the design and installation for the system integration and provides ongoing service.
The system provides 28 PowerPad stations at points of sale, using magnetic stripe technology for automatic fee calculations and revenue transactions. The Smart System Transport (SST) Auditor PowerPad Computer automated several operations that were previously done manually. The SST operates 24 hours, performing central entry, exit and automated cashiering functions, and creating smart cards and vouchers. The SST Auditor also produces some 40 statistical reports for analysis.
The system can also create bulk pre-paid vouchers, event passes and multiple day passes using a burster and ticket vault. These stored value passes can be created at any PowerPad station. Each pass is encoded with a magnetic stripe on either thermally printed ticket stock or plasticized longer-term stock. Online validation functions can be included for the creation of pre-paid event passes.
