Cameras Help Keep Kids Safe

Edwardsville Community Schools District 7 has chosen a networked video surveillance system from DVTel, Paramus, N.J., to monitor the district's 12 schools and related buildings.
The upgrade is part of an expansion of the Southern Illinois School District's security system. The system will include more than 200 cameras and it will allow wireless access to law enforcement personnel for active monitoring and event location.
“It pays to be pro-active where student safety is concerned,” says Dr. Ed Hightower, the Superintendent of Schools. “The system will help us provide a quick response should an emergency situation arise.”
Edwardsville's previous system included analog video and VCRs at 11 of its buildings. William D. Miener, director of information systems and services for the district, points out that video quality was poor when played back on the analog system. “We were only recording at one frame per four seconds,” he says. “The quality of the picture was terrible and the amount of videotape was overwhelming.”
