Riding High With Video Surveillance

More than 10 buildings at the Lawrenceville, N.J., campus of Rider University now feature advanced digital video surveillance systems from North American Video, Brick, N.J.
The upgraded security system at Rider University features Pelco Spectra III Day/Night dome camera systems controlled by a Pelco 9760 Series Matrix Switch. The dome camera systems are supplemented by Toshiba Day/Night cameras in outdoor housings from CCTVProducts.com. Cameras installed across the campus are connected to the security office on an all-fiber backbone employing Fiber Options multimode transceivers and receivers. The system's cameras are recorded 24/7 on a 32-channel Toshiba DVR with a storage capacity of 1.5 terabytes capable of providing 30 days of continuous recording. In addition, North American Video power supplies are deployed at camera locations throughout the system.
“Video surveillance and security systems at schools and universities are becoming more and more commonplace as educators, students and parents alike recognize the need to provide safe and secure environments that are more conducive to higher education,” says Ron Freschi of North American Video. In addition to the system design and installation, North American Video provided training at its headquarters facility in Brick, N.J., for 25 members of Rider University's security staff in three sessions that lasted three days each. North American Video also provided all of the programming necessary to implement the system.
The Rider campus includes 38 buildings, athletic fields, tennis courts and an indoor swimming pool on the 280-acre Lawrenceville campus. Thirteen buildings are on the 23-acre campus in Princeton, N.J.
