Safe schools project will keep kids secure

The National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM), with funding from DHS, has initiated a project to help schools achieve greater levels of safety, health and security by reducing and managing risks for a wide range of contingencies.
The goal of the Safe and Secure Schools Project is to help schools decide for themselves which measures they need to take to become truly safer and more secure, NASFM president James A. Burns says.
“Schools that successfully deal with issues of life safety, protection of property and continuity of operations can then focus their efforts and resources where they belong — on education,” adds Burns, who is also the fire administrator for the state of New York.
NASFM has joined with the National Infrastructure Institute's Center for Infrastructure Expertise (CIE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the management and protection of the national built infrastructure, to implement the Safe and Secure Schools Project.
“The Center's expertise in fire safety, security, business processes and facility management will be a tremendous asset to this project,” Burns says.
Honeywell has been selected as technology partner on the project, and will serve on the project's hazard abatement and project steering committees.
