Training For Technology Success

Supplier companies and other organizations are rising to the challenge of offering technology training that helps to maximize the effectiveness of technology's role in security. Here is a sampling of training opportunities:

  • The IP UserGroup USA provides education on Internet Protocol (IP) within physical security applications through its IP-in-Action LIVE events held four times a year. Promoting the adoption of networked products, services and solutions, IP-in-Action LIVE is a technical educational seminar and expo designed to assist in the education and acceptance of IP and Networked Security solutions and aimed at installers, integrators, end-users and others involved in security.

  • PSA has launched www.psasecuritytraining.com, a Web site that is the result of a partnership with The CMOOR Group, which specializes in online training for the security industry. This site is a one-stop portal for topics ranging from access control to IP video and more. PSA has partnered with SecurityCEU.com to deliver quality online training programs that fill continuing education requirements for a variety of certifications.

  • The Pelco Global Training Institute provides security professionals with technical and product training, offering more than 40 instructor-led courses at three North America and six international training centers. Students receive free tuition, training from experienced instructors and an opportunity to work with Pelco equipment in a lab-oriented environment.

    Field Trainers with the PGTI offer on-site training at Pelco Rep offices and occasionally at customer sites.

    The institute offers many self-paced E-Learning courses through the Pelco Learning Center.

  • The Hirsch Learning Center offers instructional programs for Hirsch products. The programs are designed using modern instructional design principles assisted by subject-matter experts to maintain a high level of internalized learning.

    The learning center, equipped with the newest electronics for multimedia, has a goal to enable students to effectively perform their jobs when they return to work, as they relate to Hirsch products. The courses allow the students to demonstrate proficiency in the subject matter to proceed through the material.

  • Panasonic Security Systems' training program, P-Tech, offers a variety of course subjects for end users, dealers, integrators and architects and engineers. Self-paced, interactive product training is available online 24/7, and monthly Webcasts on security trends and hot topics can be viewed at any time. In addition, classroom courses offer hands-on training nationwide. Most training is offered free of charge, and many courses are eligible for Continuing Education Credits through security industry organizations.

  • Infrared camera-developer FLIR Systems Inc. runs the Infrared Training Center in Billerica, Mass., that offers entry-level and advanced infrared training and certification, and a variety of courses that offer application and industry-specific training.

    All ITC Course Certifications meet or exceed American Society for Non-Destructive Testing SNT-TC-1A guidelines. Level I and Level II courses are recognized by the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA), an accredited standards developer for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

  • Genetec offers registrants technical certification courses on the company's IP security solutions, including video surveillance and access control. With hands-on exercises and provided materials, Genetec's qualified trainers guide participants through general security principles as well as proprietary software components and capabilities.

    Offered in English and French, technical certification courses may be subject to pre-requisites such as previous training or a prequalification quiz, and are predominantly designed for technicians, administrators, project managers and IT professionals.

  • Secura Key offers a comprehensive Product Technical Training Course available to technical and sales personnel on a bi-monthly basis at the Secura Key corporate headquarters in Chatsworth, Calif.

    Training is offered on standalone proximity access control units, access control systems and video integration. The classes cover system configuration and typical door installations.

    Participants will also receive a Certificate of Completion, complete product binder, sales and marketing briefing and a product development preview from the Engineering group.

  • Dedicated Micros provides high-quality training to its customers in both remote Web-based and classroom style formats with its training program.

The training courses, which focus on Dedicated Micros products, are created based on the users' involvement with the product, offering different content for installers and operators. The task-oriented training allows users to quickly identify and master relevant information to their situation.
