Galveston Port Turns to Networked Video

The Port of Galveston in Texas plans to enhance the security of its container facilities, passenger terminals and perimeter with a networked video system from Verint Systems Inc.

Located on the upper coast of Texas, the Port of Galveston provides easy access to the Gulf of Mexico and serves as a strategic port for trade between the United States and its international partners.

The port stretches across an 850-acre campus and includes facilities handling a range of cargo, two cruise ship terminals and access to two national railway systems with direct connections to major U.S. cities.

The port boasts facilities to handle all types of cargo, including containers, dry and liquid bulk, breakbulk, refrigerated and project cargo and cruise passengers.

The Port of Galveston is the home port for Carnival Cruise Line's Celebration offering four- and five-day cruises to locations along the Mexican coast.

The Verint system was delivered in conjunction with partner Johnson Controls, and it will enable security officials to centrally manage and analyze video transmitted over wireless and wireline networks.

“The Port of Galveston is committed to increasing security for our vessels and cargo and ensuring a safe environment for port employees and cruise passengers,” Steve Cernak, port director says.

“[The system] will enable port operations and security personnel to monitor unauthorized movement, identify security breaches and track sea traffic 24 hours a day via integration with the Port's infrared illumination technology for low light visibility.”

The networked video system enhances the security of facilities by networking video across multiple locations and applying advanced content analysis to extract actionable intelligence from live and stored video.
