Built, managed and maintained by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, AirTrain JFK is the 8.1-mile light rail system that connects JFK International Airport to the New York City area's mass transit system.

AirTrain enables thousands of air travelers and airport employees to travel to, from and within the airport quickly and conveniently every day.

The Port Authority maintains the bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, airports, seaports and other facilities that are critical to the region's trade and transportation capabilities.

To enhance security AirTrain officials have chosen a networked video solution from Verint Systems Inc., Melville, N.Y., that will enable Port Authority police to enhance security of the rail system by centrally monitoring elevators, passenger platforms and certain parts of the track from a central operations center.

The system will be delivered in conjunction with Verint partner IK Systems Inc., Victor, N.Y.

In addition to its duties, AirTrain also serves as an on-airport transportation service, taking travelers between the airline terminals, rental car facilities, hotel shuttles and airport parking lots.

Verint's system, called Nextiva, networks video across multiple locations and applies advanced content analytics to extract actionable intelligence from live and stored video. By alerting security personnel to potential threats, Nextiva helps organizations prevent security breaches, improve response time and enhance efficiency.
