Pittsburgh Airport Goes With Intelligent Video

Pittsburgh International Airport, one of the world's most modern airport terminal complexes, opened in October 1992 and services more than 20 million passengers per year.
The airport has deployed an intelligent video surveillance system through a grant from the Transportation Security Administration.
Airport officials chose J. P. Hudson and Associates, Beaver, Pa., to play a central role in the design and execution of the system.
To assist in the Pittsburgh International project, John Hudson, the firm's principal, tapped several other security firms, including security systems integrator InterTECH Security, Warrendale, Pa.
The project equipped airport security with a new “safety net” of security video technology that monitors activity in several key areas. The system automatically analyzes the video input, identifying potential security breaches, and reacts to suspicious activity with a preprogrammed set of alarm behaviors.
Hudson has also overseen the installation of an advanced exit lane monitoring system from Cernium Inc., St. Louis. The company's ExitSentry intelligent video monitoring system prevents, detects and records exit lane intrusions in airports and similar public spaces.
Pittsburgh International serves as the hub for US Airways and is also serviced by all other major U.S. airlines, including American, United, Delta and Northwest. The facility sits on 12,900 acres and is the 4th largest airport in the country in terms of land mass.
Earlier in March, US Airways agreed to a five-year extension of its hangar leases at Pittsburgh International.
