Florida's Port Canaveral, the second busiest cruise port in the world, has selected an automated video surveillance system from Guardian Solutions, Bradenton, Fla.

When fully deployed, the system will control 90 cameras and 20 intelligence sensors, automatically detect and track intrusions, notify local and off-site responders and record all events. The system will be installed by Santis Engineering, Melbourne, Fla.

“Canaveral is the first Florida seaport to comply with post-Sept. 11 legislative security requirements,” says David Simmons, Guardian Solutions' director of engineering. “The port's 4 million passengers and 4,000 acres rank it in the top 10 percent of all critical U.S. infrastructure assets.”

The system detects and tracks targets (people, cars, boats, etc.) and automatically compares their movements and location to the facility's security model. If a security alert or breach occurs, responders are notified and provided real-time video of the tracked intruder and a geo-registered situation display showing the origin, current location and heading of all intruders. Intruders can be detected in any outdoor environment, tracked from camera to camera and their location transmitted to off-site responders.
