Venezuela, Peru choose fingerprint technology from Identicator Inc.

The government of Venezuela and the National Office of Election Processing of Peru have selected Easy-Print inkless fingerprint technology provided by Identicator Inc., El Segundo, Calif., for use in the election process.
The Santa Clara (Calif.) Valley Transportation Authority has awarded Loronix Information Systems, Durango, Colo., a contract for mobile video security systems to be installed on up to 630 light rail vehicles and buses.
Iridian Technologies, Moorestown, N.J., and Joh. Enschede Security Solutions, Netherlands, have delivered an automatic border crossing system for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which is based on a combination of iris recognition technology and an advanced smart card. The system is already in operation.
The Ohio River Valley Youth Center has become the first youth facility to install FLARE, a personal alarm locating system supplied by Dominion Wireless Inc., Sterling, Va. The youth center staff has retrofitted existing living units and other buildings with FLARE to provide indoor and outdoor coverage within the perimeter fence. The facility, located in Franklin Furnace, Ohio, opened in 1997 and is designed to hold 142 juvenile offenders. The FLARE transmitter is a device with an alarm button that fits on an individual's belt.
Airports around the world are pouring funds into increased security systems, including CTX Explosives Detection Systems from InVision Technologies Inc., Newark, Calif. Sweden has purchased CTX 9000Dsi machines for its major airports. France has purchased CTX 2500 and 9000 systems for use at French airports. CTX 5500 systems were purchased for an airport in Venice, Italy — marking the second such system purchased for an Italian airport. Also, the Jacksonville (Fla.) Port Authority has ordered two CTX 9000 systems for use at the Jacksonville International Airport.
Visionics Corp., Minnetonka, Minn., is supplying two FaceIt ARGUS facial recognition systems for use at two American international airports. One of the airports is labeled as “Category X” by the FAA — a designation given to the top 20 international airports in the U.S. in terms of passenger traffic and other considerations. It will be the first “Category X” airport to use facial recognition technology.
Universal Studios' Hollywood, Calif., facilities have installed a guard tour system using software and hand-held computers to automate security inspections. The ProTrac security system was purchased from Tiscor, San Diego.
The Wackenhut Corp. has been awarded a three-year contract to continue to provide physical security services at the Robert E. Ginna Nuclear Plant near Ontario, N.Y. Wackenhut has provided contract security services at the plant since 1978.
To combat terrorist attacks such as chemical threats, explosives and biological weapons, Ancore, Santa Clara, Calif., has developed neutron scanning technology. The technology, which is now ready for deployment, scans and analyzes the composition of materials in carry-on bags, luggage, cargo pallets and large containers, and can detect plastics and other substances not detectable using conventional X-ray machines.
