Extreme Locking

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, many vending machines in New Orleans belonging to Whitener Snacks Inc., Norco, La., were under water for three weeks. The machines had been equipped with CyberLock electronic cylinders from Videx, Corvallis, Ore., after the company began experiencing an unexplained shortage of products from the machines.
“The audit trail was very important to us,” explains Henry Guste, chief operating officer of Whitener Snacks. “We researched all the options out there.” The company decided to go with CyberLock because its employees are able to monitor who is getting into the machines. The lock system, which cannot be bumped, picked or duplicated, also limits driver access to the machines only to certain times.
After the storm, Videx officials were amazed to find the CyberLocks on the machines that had been submerged in mud and water were still working. “They are designed to withstand the harshest conditions, and although surviving a hurricane goes beyond what we envisioned, CyberLock certainly proved to be more than up to the task,” says Andy Hilderda, vice president of Videx.
For added security, Whitner Snacks has installed CyberLock cylinders in the deadbolt on the door to its money room, and it now has several CyberLock padlocks in its warehouse. Visit videx.com.
