ASIS: Lots To See And Do

I love going into a bookstore, although the experience can be somewhat stressful. Bookstores are overwhelming in the wealth of choices they offer, in the number of titles just begging to be browsed, bought and maybe even read. Seeing all the books in a bookstore shames me into realizing how few books I have actually read, and into facing how small a fraction of the available volumes I will be able to read in my lifetime.
I had somewhat the same reaction when looking at the seminar overview for the upcoming ASIS International show in my hometown of Atlanta.
The ASIS educational program is extensive to say the least, and attendees at the show might be overwhelmed with the number of choices and the limits on their time, not even considering all the neat technologies on the exhibit floor screaming for attention (which is where I will no doubt be spending most of my time).
It's worth a look to check out the program at asisonline.org/asis2008 — and we suggest some additional choices on page 8 of this issue.
I notice that communication will be a big topic at ASIS (including one session titled “Getting the Boss To Listen to You”). There will be an international focus to several of the sessions (“The Future of Middle East Terrorism” and “Intellectual Property Rights in China,” as examples), and several sessions will be presented in Spanish. “Convergence” is mentioned in multiple contexts in the seminar overview, whether that being converged involves crisis management or “people, processes and technology.” There are technical topics such as IP and network video. And some sessions are signs of the times: “Robbery on the Information Superhighway” and “Metal Theft Awareness” come to mind.
Obviously there will be plenty to see and do in Atlanta when you come to the show (please do), and we look forward to welcoming you to our hometown.
We welcome your feedback:
