SPOTLIGHT: D1400 Orca Chipset

Pixim Inc. has added to its flagship product series - the Orca family of digital imaging chipsets - with the release of the Pixim 1400 chipset.

The chipset is designed for mobile and embedded closed-circuit television (CCTV) applications, helping to produce quality images in environments that experience vibration and those where it is not possible or desirable to adjust camera settings. The two-chip video imaging system, based on Pixim's Digital Pixel System (DPS) technology, includes the image sensor, image processor and necessary intelligence to enable security camera designers to develop high-quality, cost-effective CCTV cameras. Cameras that incorporate the 1400 chipset operate using an uncomplicated “fix, focus and forget” process. It is suitable for use in solid-state wide dynamic range (WDR) cameras where moving parts, such as auto-iris lenses, are impractical or cost-prohibitive.

“Mobile and other environments that experience vibration create a real challenge for makers of security cameras because shaking breaks anything that moves mechanically,” says John Monti, vice president of marketing and business development for Pixim. “Pixim's WDR chip technology does not require a DC iris lens.”

The D1400 provides up to 102 dB dynamic range in typical operation and is available with either a complementary (CMY) or primary (RGB) color filter array. The image sensors and the video image processor are manufactured through low-power, high-volume commercial CMOS processes, thus allowing camera manufacturers to create high-performance cameras that consume less than 1.5 watts of power. Visitor Management Software

The software package combines integrated security, communications, badging, multi-language support and advanced reporting. Implemented globally or locally, the system allows control operations from a centralized location. Features include the ability to customize screens and lists, integrate with IT infrastructure to link to any ODBC or LDAP directory system, create a directory of hosts and link to active directory to leverage single sign-on capabilities. The software can accommodate biometric scanners to allow repeat visitors to sign in by scanning a thumbprint. The use of an ID scanner speeds up the registration process by sending an e-mail containing the visitor's photo to the host upon sign-in. LCD Display Monitor

SUITABLE FOR CCTV USES

The 42-in. high-resolution, widescreen LCD monitor is appropriate for both PC- and DVR-based applications. The monitor features a high contrast ratio and brightness rating along with an ability to automatically adapt input resolution of the incoming video signal up to 1,366 × 766 pixels. This helps the unit more accurately interpret images and ensures advanced color accuracy within the images. The panel refreshes every 18 milliseconds to provide crisp, clear images with less smearing and image “ghosting” in fast-motion video. The system also features a picture-in-picture function to enable simultaneous monitoring of multiple areas. Ample horizontal and vertical viewing angles offer comfortable and clear viewing. The monitor's slim, space-saving design with optional wall-mount and removable desk stand can accommodate desktop or wall-mounted placement. Video Management Software

The software allows users to seamlessly view distributed video from any of the supplier's “NetVu-connected” products. Updates include new multi-screen layouts for widescreen monitors, Google Earth integration, improved embedded data support and a new drag bar for easier control of video recordings. Users can also copy images to a clipboard for use in other applications, create PDF format reports with images from recorded video, export video into AVI format and conduct an enhanced smart search on multiple cameras with different selection areas at the same time. Photoelectric Smoke Detector

DETECTS PAPER, WOOD, GASOLINE, POLYSTYRENE AND SMOLDERING FIRES

The photoelectric smoke detector accurately detects any type of fires. Two bicolored LEDs indicate status. In normal standby condition, the LEDs flash green every three seconds. When the detector's sensitivity has drifted outside the UL-listed “window,” the LEDs will flash red every three seconds. When the detector senses smoke and goes into alarm status, the LEDs will latch on red. The detector's chamber design significantly reduces unwanted chamber reflections so that the light source is pure and focused.
