SPOTLIGHT: Pedz Pediatric Protection System
Ontario, Canada-based Xmark Corp., manufacturer of the Hugs RFID infant protection system, has introduced a sister product designed for patient protection in hospital pediatric departments. The Pedz pediatric protection system features a tamper-resistant RFID tag with a cut-resistant band to protect toddler to teenage patients from abduction and patient flight. In addition, the tag, which can be personalized with various color covers, enables staff members to locate a patient quickly anywhere within the protected area.
Any malicious attempt to remove the tag results in an alarm while, the company says, “even the most curious kids” will not trigger nuisance alarms by playing with the tag. The system's re-attachable band allows for quick removal before medical procedures and re-attachment afterward. A feature automatically re-enrolls the patient's information into the hospital system when the patient returns from a medical procedure.
Access rights can be tailored in the system for each patient based on age, risk factors and time-of-day restrictions. Software allows users to create information columns in the patient census list to enable staff to see relevant patient information at a glance. The Pedz tag system is interoperable with the Hugs system, which is designed for infants and fits on the ankle. The Hugs tag enrolls in the Pedz software and can appear in the same census window.
Xmark offers a comprehensive “By Your Side” user support program for the Pedz system (as well as the company's Hugs and Halo infant protection systems). Through the program, users have access to clinical training opportunities, patient education courses, sample policy documents and other materials to support implementation of the systems and to establish best practices. Interchangeable Lock Cylinders
MASTERKEY CAPABILITY
The interchangeable core cylinders offer the benefit and convenience of small-format interchangeable core systems (SFICs) along with protection against unauthorized duplication of keys, as a result of utility patents on the keyway, key blanks and the secondary core locking principle. Blanks are available with a conventional key bow that is custom-coined for security or as Hybrid Prox or iCLASS electronic key blanks. The Hybrid key combines a snap-on plastic head containing a 125 kHz PROX or a 13.56 mHz iCLASS RFID credential with a nickel silver key blade. The dual-function credential can interface with an electronic access control system and also operate the mechanical cylinders. The cylinders have up to four times the masterkey capability of SFIC systems with patents through 2027. Network Design Systems
FOR THE INSTALLATION OF IP VIDEO SECURITY AND SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS
The series of six packaged systems are designed to help network architects, system engineers and integrators implement and install ready-to-go IP video security and surveillance systems. Formulated for eight-, 16- and 24-camera systems, the product packages help address common challenges of designing an IP-based system, or of migrating from an analog to a digital or to a hybrid video surveillance system. The packages feature the supplier's Director Servers, with dual-core Intel processors and 3GB of memory; pre-installed Pilot Management Software, which can be customized for alarms and reactions; and embedded Commander IP Communication Center, which provides network-switching, environmental power- and bandwidth-monitoring, and interfaces for access control and point-of-sale (POS) systems. CompactNetwork Cameras
FEATURE H.264 VIDEO COMPRESSION
Two ultra-compact fixed dome network cameras — the AXIS M3011, which provides VGA resolution; and the AXIS M3014, a 1.3-megapixel network camera — are designed for simplified recessed-mount installation and are suitable for unobtrusive video surveillance. Both models use progressive scan technology, providing full resolution images of moving objects without distortion, thus making it possible to view image details necessary for identifying individuals and objects of interest. Multiple video streams can be optimized individually in H.264 as well as Motion JPEG, and MPEG-4 Part 2 is supported for backward compatibility. Power-over-Ethernet supplies power to the cameras via the network. In addition, the cameras feature HTTPS encryption with preserved performance, IPv4/IPv6 and Quality of Service. Cover rings are available in various colors to suit interior design. AXIS M3011/M3014, Axis Communications (axis.com) Circle No. 10 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.
Network Video Recorders
