Various approaches to night vision — from thermal imaging to infrared illumination — may be mature technologies, but there are still innovations making their way into the marketplace. Here are some recent products geared toward various aspects of seeing in the dark (sometimes where the threats are).
Surveillance Software
ENABLES COMMUNICATION BETWEEN RADAR SYSTEMS AND SUPPLIER'S FLAGSHIP DAY/NIGHT VISION SYSTEM The software detects threats dynamically, delivering exact location information relative to radar position or GPS coordinates that rapidly prepare the integrated camera system to assess the detected threat. For greater situational awareness, users can integrate the supplier's surveillance platform to combine panoramic views with graphical radar data. The long-range, night surveillance cameras and software offer unique contrast image and continuous zoom, high magnification optics in zero light, situational awareness in complete darkness and full color in daytime conditions. This system can dynamically adjust its field of view to compensate for a radar system's object location margins of error and manage rapidly moving targets. Infrared Illuminator
DESIGNED TO BE “FUTURE PROOF” FEATURING ADJUSTABLE ILLUMINATION, BEAM ANGLE AND POWER SETTINGS The device allows customization of illumination distances and beam angles to the user's surveillance needs or environment, thus eliminating the need to replace existing illuminators when needs or environments change. The IR illuminator provides superior nighttime and low-light video surveillance, illuminating distances from 100 to 660 ft. The projecting beam angle can be adjusted manually from 30°, 45° and 60° and the adjustable IR power setting reduces hot spots and washouts associated with the combination of a day/night surveillance camera. Weighing 3.5 lbs. and measuring 11.5-in. × 7.0-in. × 7.0-in., the illuminator is suited for mounting in virtually any low-light outdoor environment. Its housing is constructed from lightweight, rugged weather-resistant aluminum and polycarbonate for longevity. LED technology delivers a 20,000-hour life expectancy and an integrated light sensor automatically activates and deactivates the infrared function. Night Vision Camera
SWITCHES TO BLACK AND WHITE WITH INFRA-RED NIGHT VISION FOR LOW LIGHT SITUATIONS The supplier's advanced digital wireless technology is upgraded with this camera by transmitting a “point to point” digital wireless feed from the camera to the receiver. The technology provides clearer video pictures and sound than analog wireless, and it does not suffer interference from, nor interfere with, other wireless devices such as Internet routers, cordless phones and microwave ovens. The technology's encrypted signal ensures that no one else can intercept the camera's feed. The durable color camera has a wireless transmission range of at least 160 ft. and is plug-and-play ready. IR Lenses
ADDED TO LINE OF VARIFOCAL LENSES These six new IR lenses are used with true day/night cameras to provide sharp, focused images in daylight and at night, particularly in the presence of IR light. They provide an adjustable angle of view, from very wide to normal, and they eliminate the need for trial-and-error lens fitting and for the stocking of multiple fixed-focal-length lenses. They are designed for use on 1/3-in. format CCTV cameras and may also be used on 1/4-in. format cameras. Optical construction of 10 elements in seven groups ensures sharp, high-contrast images. The lenses are equipped with CS-type mounts. IR lenses, Vicon Industries Inc. (vicon-cctv.com) Circle No. 4 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.
Day and Night Camera
RECORDS IN ENVIRONMENTS WITH LITTLE OR NO LIGHT The camera with a CCD sensor and PoE support with low-light video capture features 0.3 Lux light sensitivity for capturing video anytime, day or night, and supports optional CS-mount standard lenses, such as an auto-iris lens, IR LED lens or a night vision illuminator, to record video in any environment. It can be placed in locations without a power outlet with the use of 802.3af PoE to receive power and data over a single Ethernet cable. It supports simultaneous streaming of MPEG-4 and MJPEG video to provide both high-quality and bandwidth-efficient compression formats. Digital input and output ports offer flexible connectivity to external devices such as IR sensors, switches and alarm relays, and included 12v interfaces power optional LED illuminators. An included mobile surveillance program allows users to view live video feeds from a compatible Internet-ready mobile phone with a 3GPP player installed. A built-in microphone and audio ports give way for two-way audio communication. The camera also links to the supplier's software to manage the network, set e-mail alert notifications, set recording schedules and trigger motion detection to record directly to a hard drive. Panoramic Infrared Camera
DESIGNED TO REPLACE MULTI-CAMERA PERIMETER SECURITY SYSTEMS The camera creates three to 12 megapixel panoramic thermal images of a surveillance area at a rate of one full image per second for automatic, real-time intrusion detection and tracking. It operates passively, emitting no light, and can detect a human from half a mile to two miles away. Users control the device remotely through a point-and-click interface on a Windows operating system, and can deploy the camera in seven to eight minutes via an Ethernet connection.
