CEM Systems, Belfast, Northern Ireland, has received an order to supply an access control and badge production system for Belfast City Airport. The Access 2000 system will be installed in the new terminal building due to open in spring 2001.
Sensormatic Electronics Corp., Boca Raton, Fla., has announced that Staples Inc., Framingham, Mass., a retailer of office supplies, will initiate a source tagging program with Sensormatic's UltraMax technology. Also, Sensormatic announced that its UltraMax anti-theft technology has been selected by a group of Danish retailers and retail trade associations as the preferred technology for source tagging.
Johnson Controls Inc., Milwaukee, will be responsible for security system integration for the Facility Security Risk Management Program at approximately 925 sites operated by the Federal Aviation Administration under a new contract valued at more than $50 million. The five-year contract covers evaluation, design, installation and commissioning of security systems for the sites across the United States and U.S. territories.
Drexler Technology Corp., Mountain View, Calif., has announced the development and first shipment of a LaserCard read/write drive with added smart card read/write capability. The dual technology read/write card drive was designed to function with Italy's national ID/social services card. The combined smart card and optical card will contain both an optical memory stripe that holds about 1,000 kilobytes and a microchip processor with 16 kilobytes of memory.
The EIRIS Local Positioning System by ELPAS, Southlake, Texas, has been installed in the Yokohama Stroke and Brain Center, Yokohama, Japan. The system helps the medical staff locate and control wandering patients and thus improve patient safety and staff efficiency.
Checkpoint Systems Inc., Thorofare, N.J., has further expanded its presence in the Australian market with mandates to install its RF EAS security systems in retailers Tandy, Adairs and Australian Unity.
NICE Systems, Secaucus, N.J., has announced that the Sydney Airport Corp. Ltd., Sydney, Australia, has decided to upgrade its CCTV security system to NiceVision version 2, the latest version of NICE's digital video recording system. Sydney Airport Corp. Ltd.'s decision was made after 12 months of operation of the NiceVision system version 1.5.
Fargo Electronics Inc., Eden Prairie, Minn., has received an order of 198 card printers from Telos Corp., Ashburn, Va., for incorporation into the U.S. Department of Defense multi-purpose Common Access identification card project. Also, Fargo has been selected to supply an additional 1,253 card personalization systems for the U.S. Department of Defense project. The Fargo systems will be incorporated into the department's multi-purpose identification card project by Telos Corp., Ashburn, Va., a systems integrator specializing in large govenment contracts.
