CAMERA SYSTEMS CONNECT STORES

Lakeland Limited, a U.K.-based retailer of kitchenware and other home products, has installed video surveillance cameras at more than 30 sites.
Nearly 500 TK-C920E cameras from JVC have been installed at the sites. The cameras are used to upgrade the security systems at new and existing stores. The installation has been undertaken on an ongoing process by Multi Image Solutions.
Lakeland Limited, originally a mail order company that moved into retail, lists its major security threats as shoplifting, drug offenses, gangs and protection of internal sales staff.
After research, Lakeland chose the JVC solution and installed 480 cameras. Each camera incorporates a digital signal processor (DSP) that automatically adjusts the camera parameters to ensure high resolution, sharp and natural looking pictures in various lighting conditions.
The one-third-inch CCD produces 535 TV lines of horizontal resolution, with LoLux sensitivity of 0.7 lux at F1.2 in color mode, which ensures image quality in extremely low light.
Images are displayed using JVC 17-inch monitors, and all cameras are backed by digital recording and 24-hour networked central monitoring in the company's headquarters facility.
“On average, there are around 12 to 24 cameras for each store,” says Mark Goodfellow, retail operations manager for Lakeland. “We have the option to dial up through a computer network to look at security areas of any of the shops.”
