Digital video recorders from Image Vault, New Albany, N.Y., feature a Zip drive for downloading of incidents and a modem for remote access to archived or live video. Playback software for access from a desktop or laptop computer is included. An on-board multiplexer can control up to eight cameras. A pre-alarm feature allows recording of up to 40 seconds before an event and a video-on-demand feature records and logs only significant events for cataloging and retrieving incidents.

Using a built-in modem, Spy Cam-11 transmits video via telephone line or cell phone to a PC or laptop equipped with a standard modem and receiving software. Manufactured by CCS International Ltd., New York, the system can be programmed to issue an alert and automatically record when preset conditions have been met. The camera uses a 5/16-inch-diameter lens.

A line of color, flat-panel monitors is new from ForeRunner Technologies Inc. , Rock Island, Ill. The screens, which use liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, are available in 10.4-, 12.1- and 13.8-inch models, as well as a 4-inch hand-held model. The monitors convert composite signals.

The VideoEase CCTV Balun is compact to simplify cabling for CCTV, says NHC Communications Inc., Mount Royal, Quebec. Featuring a custom high-bandwidth transformer, VideoEase converts baseband video signals from RG75 coax to unshielded twisted pair. It supports connections of up to 2,200 or 2,500 feet via CAT 5 UTP with color or black-and-white video. All units are epoxy sealed to prevent contamination.

The IntelliSense IV460 high-resolution color CCTV camera has a horizontal resolution of 460 lines, according to maker C&K Systems, Folsom, Calif. A minimum illumination level of 2.0 Lux at F1.2 enables low-light operation. Adaptive backlight compensation allows clarity in environments with intense backlighting, says the maker. Four white balance settings and image-edge enhancement are also featured. The camera measures 51/2 inches in length and weighs less than 2 pounds.

Viewpoint NT, used in conjunction with fixed CCTV cameras, provides transaction point-of-sale monitoring using the Windows-NT operating platform. Offered by Checkpoint Systems Inc., Thorofare, N.J., the system generates reports that identify suspicious transactions, which can be retrieved for review. Viewpoint NT monitors transactions of 64 register/camera locations 24 hours per day, seven days a week for 30 days or more, says the supplier.

A six-channel, real-time video multiplexer that operates over a single fiber in multimode or single-mode configuration is new from American Fibertek Inc., Somerset, N.J. The unit features 8 MHz video bandwidth with color capability and is compatible with NTSC, PAL and SECAM specifications.

The AI-PCI/Wave wavelet video compression board is a video capture device capable of supporting 350:1 real-time compression and decompression of CCIR-601 digital video with high image quality, according to maker Applied Integration Corp., Tucson, Ariz. The AN-2400PCMCIA Wireless LAN, also new from Applied Integration, offers 2.4 GHz wireless transmission of video and other data over multiple frequencies at high data rates, says the company.
