Tony Blair hails IriScan technology

British Prime Minister Tony Blair recently announced that IriScan's iris recognition technology, developed by Dr. John Daugman of Cambridge University, has been selected as a "millennium product" by the U.K. Government's Design Council, according to Mt. Laurel, N.J.-based IriScan. The iris recognition technology will be displayed in the Millennium Dome, a structure currently being built in the U.K. to welcome the beginning of the new millennium.

The ArialView wireless locating and communications system from Arial Systems, Vernon Hills, Ill., will be marketed by Environetx, Itasca, Ill. Cont inental Instruments, Edgewood, N.Y., has appointed Langbaum Associates as manufacturer's representative for its line of access control systems. Langbaum's territory will comprise New York, New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

CSI Control Systems International, Dallas, has acquired the MSi Group Companies, Leicester, England, a building control systems integrator. The acquisition will expand CSI's worldwide employee base to more than 700.

Laminex, Charlotte, N.C., has become a master distributor for G&A Imaging's Episuite software line. Laminex currently resells Episuite software as a G&A Imaging certified partner. As a master distributor, Laminex will administer a certified reseller program, including cooperative marketing initiatives and new product offerings for G&A software products.

effeff International GmbH, Auslandsbeteiligung, Albstadt, Germany, and Hanchett Entry Systems, Phoenix, Ariz., have announced a merger of the two interests resulting in a new, Phoenix-based company known as HES Inc. The new entity is a member of the effeff group, made up of manufacturing companies in Germany, Romania, France and China. Rutherford Controls will remain the exclusive effeff general importer for North and Central America.

Cypress Computer Systems, Lapeer, Mich., has appointed Blair Ames of Montgomery-Ames Associates, Lynn, Mass., as its access control products sales rep for New England.

Ultrak, Lewisville, Texas, will offer face verification technology from Visionics, Jersey City, N.J., as an integrated feature of its SAFEnet security and access control system, in accordance with a partnering agreement between the two companies. Ultrak will also integrate Visionics' face verification technology into its closed-circuit television and video management systems.

Robert Johnson, chairman of First Security Services Corp., Boston, has announced the formation of a joint program with Rutgers University's School of Criminal Justice to provide research support for one criminal justice Ph. D. student each year. Research support is provided through the First Security Services Corp. Dissertation Fellowship, which took effect May 1. Also in attendance at the announcement were First Security board member and former New York City Police Commissioner William J. Bratton, and First Security executive vice president Richard Barry. The stipend will be given annually to a meritorious student whose dissertation topic is in the broad area of private security, its contribution to the commercial and industrial sectors, public safety and the relationship to public policing and crime control.

Guardian International, Hollywood, Fla., has acquired Precision Security Systems, an alarm company in south Florida. The acquisition gives Guardian approximately 3,100 additional subscribers in south Florida.

Ackerman Security Systems, Atlanta, has acquired the alarm accounts of Cambridge Security Systems, Advance Telecom, Intercall Systems and Universal Security Systems, all of which are located in the Atlanta area.
