Continental Instruments has moved its corporate headquarters to the Heartland Executive Park in Edgewood, N.Y. The company was recently re-acquired from Sensormatic Electronics Corp. by John Banks and Stan Wand. Banks was formerly the manager of the Continental line when it was part of Sensormatic. Wand was one of the former owners of Continental prior to its sale to Sensormatic. The new facility will house corporate, technical support, research and development, and sales and marketing functions.
J.P. Freeman Co. Inc., Newtown, Conn., has announced the formation of J.P. Freeman Laboratories, LLC. According to Joe Freeman, the company will provide objective testing information on how to buy and use security equipment and services to users, and to manufacturers interested in working toward improved product design and user-friendliness. Among the new services will be competitive evaluations, new product and service tests and advisories on issues. Spearheading the work of the new company with Joe Freeman will be Bill Moody, former vice president of manufacturing at ADT and Dave Terrett, former vice president of technology at Sentrol.
Esselte Americas, a division of Esselte AB, Stockholm, has acquired Qualtec Data Products, Fremont, Calif. Qualtec security products will be marketed by Curtis Computer Accessories.
Entergy Security, Raleigh, N.C., has agreed to acquire the Ranger American group of companies, which provides security systems as a standard feature in new homes. According to Entergy, the expansion increases its customer total to 140,000 and its annual revenues to more than $53 million.
Elmo Mfg. Corp., New Hyde Park, N.Y., has appointed Repworks, South Hadley, Mass., as its sales representive for CCTV-ITV products in New England.
Sytron Inc., Broomfield, Colo., has established a U.K./European operation named Sytron Security Group Ltd. The new subsidiary will handle European sales and distribution of Sytron products.
ECSI Intl. Inc., Fairfield, N.J., has acquired the Fiber Optic Intelligence Detection System (FOIDS) from Mason and Hanger Corp. FOIDS offers stand-alone model 500DX and model 3000DX PC-based systems with graphic annunciators that integrate multi-sensor phenomenologies. Larry Porter, FOIDS director of marketing and sales under Mason and Hanger, will continue as vice president of marketing for ECSI-FOIDS Inc. Dell Moberg, production manager under Mason and Hanger, will also continue.
Gyyr, an Odetics company, Anaheim, Calif., has been recommended for the International Organization for Standardization's ISO 9001 certification. The ISO 9001 certification, developed in Geneva, Switzerland, requires companies to demonstrate documented policies and procedures for quality management.
