Los Angeles — A New Orleans man accused of striking a flight attendant and opening an airplane door as the plane taxied toward takeoff at Los Angeles International Airport was charged with interfering with a flight crew. David Murdoch Boone, 36, was arrested after allegedly hitting a Southwest Airlines flight attendant on a plane bound for Las Vegas. The charge carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence. Flight attendant Jennifer Brophy was seated at the back of the plane when Boone started walking toward her. Brophy attempted to stop Boone but he pushed past her and opened one of the rear emergency doors about 12 inches. Two passengers then grabbed Boone as he approached the emergency door across the cabin. The men pinned Boone to the floor and he eventually relented.

Several hundred people were at the wedding reception when gunfire erupted shortly before 11 p.m., said Officer David Marander.

Newark, Ohio — After union officials filed an unfair-labor-practice charge against Newark schools, alleging the district hid a microphone in a chapter president's office, district officials unveiled a camera they said the union mistook for a microphone. School officials said a spy camera was used to monitor use of a $168,000 digital copying machine in a print-shop office. It was installed after officials were told employees might be stealing copies or otherwise misusing the copier.
