GE Set To Acquire InVision Technologies

General Electric Co. will acquire InVision Technologies Inc., a provider of explosive detection units, for $900 million in cash, or $50 a share.

GE, by combining InVision and GE Ion Track, will be able to provide a variety of complementary high-technology detection products and security systems to help protect airports and other mass transportation systems, border interdiction and customs sites, high security installations like power plants, chemical plants and military bases and entertainment facilities.

GE Ion Track offers ion trace detection systems for detecting explosives and narcotics. InVision Technologies, Newark, Calif., is one of two government-approved suppliers of explosives detection systems for use at U.S. airports.
