As We Go to Press: County denies responsibility for Columbine massacre

Jefferson County commissioners said August 16 that the county and its sheriff department cannot be held responsible for the deaths of 15 people during a shooting rampage by two students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., on April 19, 1999. The county filed a 42-page document in U.S. District Court in response to a lawsuit filed by victims' families claiming authorities mishandled emergency response.
