HID Corp. to acquire Motorola's RFID access control division

HID Corp., Irvine, Calif., has agreed to acquire Motorola's worldwide RFID access control business, previously known as “Indala,” headquartered in San Jose, Calif. The acquisition will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2001, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

SSP Solutions Inc.'s Litronic division, Irvine, Calif., has been awarded a patent for technology that isolates biometric identification data from networks, servers, PCs or other computing environments when being used to authenticate identity to obtain access. SSP's Protected PIN Path (PPP) technology restricts transmission of passwords, PINs and now biometric data to the secure smart card reader only, eliminating its movement into public territory.

Sensormatic Electronics Corp., Boca Raton, Fla., has acquired the assets of Taiwan-based security systems integrator Enable Systems Engineering Co. Ltd. Enable, based in Taipei, is a high-end security systems integrator with experience in the design, installation and service of access control and video surveillance systems.

Security maintenance services provider Locknet, Nicholasville, Ky., has acquired the door business unit of Fire King Intl., a manufacturer of fireproof file cabinets and electronic intelligent safes based in New Albany, N.Y. Locknet also agreed to acquire Silver Lining Technologies Inc., Clarksville, Ind.

Batko, Portneuf, Canada, a manufacturer of camera housings, fixed domes, and CCTV accessories, has unveiled a new distribution alliance for the Canadian market, making Batko's product line available through ADI and Burtek systems.

Gyyr Electronic Access Control, a subsidiary of Odetics Inc., Anaheim, Calif., has changed its corporate name to Maxxess. The name is an extension of the company's product line, Axxess. Additionally, Silent Witness, Surrey, B.C., has acquired Gyyr's CCTV products division.

Primary Image Inc., Orlando, Fla., has changed its name to PI Vision.

Detection Systems Inc., Rochester, N.Y., and Lenel Systems Intl. Inc., Pittsford, N.Y., have completed a strategic supply agreement. Under the agreement, Lenel will reconfigure its core access control technology as a new product line for Radionics — a division of Detection Systems — under the brand Readykeypro.

GVI Inc. d.b.a. Samsung CCTV, Carrollton, Texas, has agreed to be a distributor of the POS-watch digital video surveillance system for North, South and Latin America.

CAP Index Inc., Philadelphia, has signed an agreement with Online Associates LLC, Fremont, Calif., which will utilize CRIMECAST crime vulnerability protection reports. CAP also announced a strategic relationship with ADT Security Services Inc., a unit of Tyco Fire and Security Services, North America.

Axcess Inc., Dallas, has formed a marketing group to respond to increased demand for security outlined in the Homeland Security Initiative. The effort will begin by pulling together existing and new wireless solutions for airport security using network-based technology in video surveillance, access control, and asset protection. The company also announces that Loronix Information Systems, a subsidiary of Comverse Infosys Inc., Denver, has completed an agreement with Axcess enabling Loronix to sell Axcess' line of video server appliances. Additionally, Axcess will acquire the assets of Atlanta-based Ivex Corp., a provider of networked video technology in the security and IT markets. The company also agreed with Anixter Int'l, Skokie, Ill., so Anixter can distribute Axcess products.

Keltron Corp., Waltham, Mass., a manufacturer of alarm receiving and monitoring systems, has acquired D&S Technologies, a manufacturer of annunciator panels and enclosures. The newly combined company will manufacture its complementary product lines in Waltham, Mass.

Diebold Inc., Canton, Ohio, announces strategic partnerships with Essex Industries, a North American subsidiary of Sweden-based Assa Abloy, and with Lanex LLC, Columbia, Md. Lanex will allow Diebold to sell its digital recorders, while Essex will allow the company to sell its access control devices. Diebold has also teamed with Pacom Systems Inc. to sell Pacom's integrated system solutions.

NFR Security Inc., Rockville, Md., has opened two offices in London and in Brasilia, Brazil, to provide sales and engineering support.

MVM Inc., Washington D.C., has acquired assets of Sting Security Inc., the largest locally-owned security service provider to private industry in the Washington metro region.

Loronix Information Systems, a subsidiary of Comverse Infosys Inc., Denver, announced it will integrate its video products with Torrance, Calif.-based Group 4 Securitas Technology's AMAG enterprise access control systems. Loronix also announced a strategic partnership with Visionics Corp., Minnetonka, Minn., to provide Visionics' FaceIt facial recognition technology capabilities on the Loronix CCTV platform.

Lincoln Security Services Inc., Cerritos, Calif., has created a division to provide customers with a wider variety of services called LSSI Security Systems. LSSI will provide expertise in designing, consulting, installation and service of CCTV, access control, intercom and burglar alarm systems.

Lockheed Martin, Gaithersburg, Md., and Absolute Software, Vancouver, have agreed to a partnership in which Lockheed's computer tracking and theft recovery services will use the Computrace platform.

Ademco Group's Integrated Security Division, Walnut Creek, Calif., has integrated several brands to form a security solutions company. ISD combines products from Nexwatch, Northern Computers Inc., Surveillant Consulting and Integrated Security Network.

International Fiber Systems Inc., Newton, Conn., has appointed Multi-Tech Reps, Blaine, Minn., as an IFS sales representative responsible for sales and support in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Evive Corp., Washington, D.C., announces the availability of Bioaccess, a biometric access control system designed to secure personnel and assets in offices and buildings. The company is using proprietary and third-party biometric technology, including finger-scan devices by Identix Inc., Los Gatos, Calif.

Nexus Group Intl. Inc., Burlington, Ontario, announces Graphco Technologies Inc., Newtown, Pa., and its Acsys Biometric Corp. have agreed to co-develop and market a facial recognition solution for the surveillance marketplace using Nexus' HNET neural networking technology.

RSA Security, Bedford, Mass., has acquired Securant Technologies Inc., and its Cleartrust authorization solution.

One Source Industries Inc., Odessa, Fla., has partnered with Fargo Electronics Inc., Eden Prairie, Minn., to distribute the “professional series” Fargo product line in Florida.

The Security Industry Association (SIA), Alexandria, Va., has contributed $50,000 to the Western Burglar and Fire Alarm Association to assist in its efforts to create an apprenticeship program in California.

Aiphone Corp., Bellevue, Wash., has committed to donating 250 door entry intercom systems for installation in Habitat for Humanity homes in the state of Washington over the next five years.

Mayflower Sales, Brooklyn, N.Y., has added Jackson exit devices and concealed door closers, RCI electronic strikes and Roton continuous hinges to its inventory.

The American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), Alexandria, Va., and Webster University, St. Louis, have jointly created an online graduate degree program in organizational and business security management.

Vigilos Inc., Seattle, has formed an alliance with PCSC Inc., Torrance, Calif., to create connectivity between Vigilos' Avanta security software and PCSC's Ultimate, IQ and SIM series of access control panels. Vigilos previously announced the Avanta system added access control functionality.
