Initiative to increase cooperation between law enforcement, security
Feb 1, 1998 12:00 PM, AC&SSI Staff
The Bureau of Justice Assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice has formed and funded Operation Cooperation, a national initiative to improve and increase cooperation between public law enforcement and private security operations, the nation's two major providers of protective service.
Operation Cooperation will develop practical examples and guidelines to help the two sides of protection work together toward common goals. The Institute for Law and Justice and Hallcrest Systems Inc. have been awarded a one-year grant to coordinate efforts and produce products that will further the initiative's goals. The project will address questions such as how law enforcement and private security organizations can establish cooperative relationships, who they should establish those relationships with, and what pitfalls they should avoid.
An executive steering committee of representatives from the American Society for Industrial Security, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and other law enforcement and private security associations has been established to guide the endeavor.
