InVision subsidiary awarded grant to upgrade explosives detection

Quantum Magnetics Inc., a subsidiary of InVision Technologies Inc., Newark, Calif., has been awarded a $1 million grant by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to develop an upgrade to the CTX family of explosives detection systems.
Viisage Technology Inc., Littleton, Mass., has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Curtiss-Wright Corp., Lyndhurst, N.J., to market and sell Viisage's face recognition solutions for surveillance and access control applications to the power plant and pipeline industries. Viisage has also acquired the intellectual property and related assets of the Miros division of eTrue.com, a face recognition firm. In addition to acquiring technology, Viisage also gained access to the company's customer base and distribution channels.
HID Corp., Irvine, Calif., has formed a technology alliance with Ensure Technologies, Ann Arbor, Mich., in which Ensure's XyLoc PC security software can facilitate deployments of HID PC access control solutions.
NTRU, Burlington, Mass., has joined the Smart Card Alliance, a non-profit multi-industry association committed to driving the widespread adoption of multi-application smart card technology.
Network Associates Inc., Santa Clara, Calif., and Internet Security Systems Inc., Atlanta, have formed a strategic alliance to deliver security products and services. The companies will also begin a cooperative research effort to support future product development.
Lenel Systems Intl. Inc., Rochester, N.Y., has opened a new headquarters office in Woking, England. The new office will serve the U.K. and Africa. Checkpoint Systems Inc., Thorofare, N.J., will appeal a federal jury's guilty verdict concerning antitrust violations. The lawsuit was brought by ID Security Systems Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Dutch A&A Holding BV, which alleged that Checkpoint interfered with ID Security's contract to distribute anti-theft retail tags made by Tokai Electronics of Japan. ID Security originally asked for $270 million in damages. The jury assessed damages of $26 million, but those damages are subject to potential tripling by the court under a rule known as trebling.
Fargo Electronics Inc., Minneapolis, has been granted a patent by the Japan Patent Office for Fargo's Printer Ribbon Identification Sensor. “The pin core patent covers technology which assures that the proper ribbon is installed in Fargo printers,” says Jeffrey D. Upin, Fargo's general counsel. “Sensors in each Fargo printer detect specific configurations of small metal pins in the core of each dye-sublimation, resin, or overlaminate ribbon, preventing installation or usage of any incorrect ribbon.”
Ademco Group, Syosset, N.Y., a part of Honeywell's Security and Fire Solutions division, has unveiled an online image library that lets dealers download photographs for use in marketing materials.
Shareholders of Identix Inc., Los Gatos, Calif., and Visionics Corp., Jersey City, N.J., can vote in late June on the companies' proposed merger. Visionics' shareholders of record can vote on the matter June 24, while Identix will hold its meeting the following day.
