IR SECURITY AND SAFETY LOCKING SYSTEMS FIT MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

California State University-Sacramento and Las Vegas' Caesar's Palace have selected standalone access control locking systems from IR Security and Safety's Electronic Access Control Division, Forestville, Conn. The system at CSU-S includes Schlage computer-managed mortise locking systems and Locknetics Locklink software. The system at Caesar's Palace includes Von Duprin computer-managed access trim and exit bars.

The U.S. Navy's Point Loma Submarine Base, San Diego, has installed a face recognition security system from Viisage Technology Inc., Littleton, Mass., designed to allow keyless entry to secure facilities. The technology will be used for pier access and will eliminate the need for constant guard duty. Additionally, the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles has selected Viisage to design and implement a driver's license system that will enable the DMV to acquire digital images, signatures and demographic data and store them in a relational database. A similar digital system has been selected by the Connecticut DMV.

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority has selected explosives detection systems (EDS) from L-3 Communications Corp., New York, for in-line, automated baggage screening. The purchase is part of a $2.2 billion program to enable Canadian airports to screen 100 percent of checked baggage by 2007.

The Port of Savannah (Ga.) is one of 51 seaports to be awarded security grants from the Federal government. The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded more than $1.3 million in security grants to the Georgia Ports Authority for use in Savannah.

Solana Beach, Calif.-based 21st Century Oil has chosen remote management and security systems for its retail sites from Westec InterActive, Irvine, Calif. The system allows remote monitoring of CCTV cameras and a two-way audio system.

The Fifth Third Bank of Cincinnati will integrate digital video management systems from Silent Witness, Surrey, B.C., into its security solution at full-service banking centers. The new units will replace a VCR and a 16-channel multiplexer.

A nuclear generating station in California and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles have both selected ID-Check document verification systems from Intelli-Check Inc., Woodbury, N.Y. The systems analyze and display information encoded in magnetic stripes and barcodes found on driver's licenses and other forms of identification.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Maricopa (Ariz.) County Sheriff's Department have both selected less-lethal weapons from Taser Intl., Scottsdale, Ariz. “With the fourth-largest jail facility in the U.S., my detention officers needed an additional tool to maintain security and control in a jail system bursting at the seams,” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says.

Barona Casino, San Diego, has upgraded its Club Barona membership program with membership cards produced using Eltron plastic card printers from Zebra Technologies Corp., Vernon Hills, Ill. Additionally, the 56-floor Renaissance Tower in Dallas has selected Eltron printers to produce access control proximity cards for use throughout the 1.7-million-square-foot facility.

The Italian government has ordered optical memory card encoders from Drexler Technology Corp., Mountain View, Calif., to aid in the secure issuance of its new national ID card. The encoders were manufactured by Drexler subsidiary LaserCard Systems Corp.

The Florida Department of Transportation has selected a digital video transmission system from iMPath Networks Inc., Ottawa, for use with incident management and traffic control on the Florida Turnpike.

The U.S. military is deploying robots equipped with wireless IP network cameras from Scotland-based IndigoVision. The cameras are attached to each robot and are designed to transmit digital video to any network-enabled device.

The Virginia Beach (Va.) Police Department has selected a facial recognition system from Identix Inc., Los Gatos, Calif., to upgrade its beachfront CCTV network. Three new cameras and new fiber-optic cables will also be installed.

A digital video surveillance system has been donated to Georgia's Evans High School by Network Data Services Inc., Evans, Ga. The high school will serve as a pilot site for the system.

A high-security guard booth for the U.S. Capitol Police has been designed by B.I.G. Enterprises Inc., Altadena, Calif., featuring an HVAC system with a bullet-resistant shroud.

The new Borgata Casino and Spa, Atlantic City, has selected North American Video, Brick, N.J., to provide installation, training and maintenance for the casino's security staff. The planned surveillance system will feature CCTV components from manufacturers including Pelco and Sanyo.

LifeCare Solutions Inc., San Diego, has recovered a stolen laptop computer using a PC tracking and loss control service from Absolute Software, Vancouver, B.C. The computer used its modem to call the monitoring station, and the location of the device was determined using Automatic Number Identification technology.

The Harley-Davidson Motor Co., Milwaukee, has selected elliptic weatherproof metal detectors from CEIA USA, Twinsburg, Ohio, for use at the company's Open Road Tour Celebration, honoring Harley-Davidson's 100th anniversary.

The Mall of America, Bloomington, Minn., has selected the Loronix digital video security and surveillance system from Verint Systems Inc., Woodbury, N.Y. The networked digital video system will cover the entire mall — the largest in the U.S. — including its indoor amusement park.

The state of Texas has identified nearly $30 million in suspected fraud, abuse and waste in the Texas Medicaid program since implementing the Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Detection System from Electronic Data Systems Corp., Plano, Texas.

A U.S. bank has selected a card management system from Datakey Inc., Minneapolis, designed to provide Web-based smart card and digital credential management.

Los Angeles International Airport has created nearly 45,000 new ID badges using card printer/encoders from Fargo Electronics Inc., Eden Prairie, Minn. The access badges are double-sided and color-coded for different levels of access.

The Midwest Express Center and U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee have implemented standalone, programmable electronic access control systems for interior and exterior doors from Corbin Russwin Architectural Hardware, Monroe, N.C., a division of ASSA ABLOY.

The Port of Miami has selected the Lightning Access System from General Defense Systems Inc., Boca Raton, Fla., designed to improve information access for security systems at ports, including shipping container X-ray inspection systems.

The Canadian Embassy in Port Au Prince, Haiti, has selected a rotating anti-climb security barrier from Vandgard, Kent, U.K., to be installed along the perimeter of the facility. The barrier will also be equipped with the Defensor alarm system from Geoquip Ltd., Derbyshire, U.K.
