A keypad version of the V Series of electronic door locks needs no key; a valid code allows entry. The Keypad Electronic Lock, manufactured by Best Lock Corp., Indianapolis, is programmable to 1,000 users, has a 1,000-event history, automatic lock and unlock and a clock and calendar. Codes and programming setup are performed at the factory prior to shipment, but issuing and maintaining codes are under the user's control. The lock can be programmed with IPS software and a hand-held terminal.
Rutherford Controls Inc., Virginia Beach, Va., has redesigned the latch keeper on its adjustable 7 series electric strikes. A thicker and rounder shape prevents the door from "hanging up" on misaligned narrow line aluminum doors with no gap, says the company.
A U.L.-listed kit can secure a double door without a center bar (mullion). The Arm-A-Dor Double Adapter Kit from Sargent and Greenleaf, Nicholasville, Ky., provides a strike that is secured on the inactive door with the same bolt-through door design incorporated in the original Arm-A-Dor. In the double-door application, the inactive door must be secured in its frame using locking deadbolts. The strike is constructed with 2x2-inch, 12-gauge steel.
