When a Mad Bomber Calls
Jan 1, 2007 12:00 PM
In case of a bomb threat, would you know how to respond? Would your employees?
If a bomb threat is received over the telephone, panic may prevent the person answering the phone from gaining valuable information that could save lives. For guidance in dealing with a bomb threat situation, Allied Barton Security Services provides a checklist of questions to ask the caller in case of a telephone threat.
Upon receiving a threat over the phone, the responder should in general get as much information as possible from the caller. He or she should also keep the caller on the line, record everything that is said and notify police and building management personnel. Here are some questions to ask:
- When is the bomb going to explode?
- Where is it right now?
- What does it look like?
- What kind of bomb is it?
- What will cause it to explode?
- Did you place the bomb?
- Why?
- What is your address?
- What is your name?
