Satellite service tracks offendersCorrections agencies can monitor offenders on probation, parole or work release with a service that uses satellite signals. The Satellite Monitoring and Remote Tracking System by Chicago-based Ameritech uses Global Positioning System technology to track offenders. SecurityLink from Ameritech offers the service to corrections agencies through an agreement with Palm Harbor, Fla.-based Pro Tech Monitoring Inc., which developed the technology.Oneida Bingo and Casino, Green Bay, Wis., uses hand geometry readers from Recognition Systems Inc., Campbell, Calif., for security and time and attendance. Employees enter an ID number into the HandKey's built-in keypad and place their hand on the reader. The reader verifies the employee by checking more than 90 different hand measurements in less than a second.
The Northeast Utilities Service Co. is using security services from Borg-Warner Protective Services Corp., a subsidiary of Chicago-based Borg-Warner Security Corp., in its Waterford, Conn.-based Millstone Nuclear Power Station. The $35 million, five-year agreement will employ more than 100 security personnel.
The federal Department of Transportation is using security services by TASC Inc., a subsidiary of Woodland Hills, Calif.-based Litton Industries. TASC is providing technology support services in areas such as mainframe automated information security, disaster recovery and contingency planning, computer security awareness and training, incident response and plan preparation, virus detection and prevention, hot-site and cold-site support, and independent verification and validation.
The Portland Public School District, Portland, Ore., has selected the IntelliKnight 5820 fire system from Silent Knight, Maple Grove, Minn., for its 80 facilities.
Fox Lake Correctional Institution, Fox Lake, Wis., is using a non-lethal induced pulse security fence from Safeguards Technology Inc., Hackensack, N.J.
The United States Customs Service plans to use Mobile Truck x-ray systems by EG&G Astrophysics, Long Beach, Calif. The first unit is scheduled to be delivered by the end of 1999, according to the company. The MOBIX is designed to screen vehicles up to 14.5 feet high and 10.5 feet wide for contraband.
Paco Pharmaceutical Services will use security services provided by SpectaGuard, Livingston, N.J., at its Lakewood, N.J., facility. SpectaGuard will provide 24-hour access control security services for about a half-million square feet of facilities in Paco's production and warehouse complex.
The First Union Corp., Charlotte, N.C., the third largest cash management provider in the United States, is using the Digipass 300 authentication solution by Vasco Data Security International Inc., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., to secure its Internet and PC global cash management services, according to Vasco.
National Car Rental System Inc., Minneapolis, uses the Sabre Tooth - or tiger teeth - traffic controllers, gate arms and guard booths by Delta Scientific Corp., Valencia, Calif., at 120 of its corporate-owned locations.
