High Speed, Low Cost

SPOTLIGHT: Zebra P330m Monochrome Card Printer

Zebra Card Printer Solutions' newest addition to its Performance class of card printers is the Zebra P330m, a high-volume monochrome card printer that prints cards in 5.2 seconds. The printer was created for users who regularly print large quantities of single-color cards and those who personalize sizeable numbers of pre-printed cards. The printer prints cards using single-color ribbons in a range of colors, which lowers the cost of the printed card. The low cost and faster printing speed add up to an attractive Total Cost of Ownership compared to other available high-volume printers, according to the company.

“End-users are looking for a reliable, durable and low-cost card printer for high-volume, monochrome applications, and the P330m handily meets their requirements,” says Veraje Anjargolian, vice president and general manager of Zebra Card Printer Solutions. “Many large organizations ship enormous quantities of pre-printed cards to their various local sites, which in turn, personalize them. In addition, small- and medium-size businesses may only need a single color card for employee ID, customer loyalty and other applications.”

The printer is easily deployed using USB and 10/100 Ethernet connectivity options. It supports a range of card thicknesses, printing on cards as thin as 10-mil or as thick as 60-mil proximity cards. The card input hopper capacity can be increased from 100 cards to 220 cards with the addition of designated plastic extension pieces. The printer also provides magnetic stripe and smart card encoding, and encoders for contact smart cards and Mifare contactless cards can be integrated into the printer for printing and encoding on one machine. Zebra software drivers are Microsoft Vista-, 2000- and XP-compatible to offer plug-and-play operation and compatibility with most applications. Multi-Zone Metal Detector

DISPLAYS METERING SIGNALS PROPORTIONAL TO MASS OF OBJECT DETECTED

The detector generates an electromagnetic scanning field for the detection of metallic weapons inside a monitored passage. Weapons can be accurately located on people in transit, thus speeding up search operations. A “height on person” display indicates the position of a weapon on a person through illuminated LEDs. The system also displays green and red metering signals that are proportional to the mass of the detected object. The detector is available in a panel or column version. An outdoor column version is also available. Users can synchronize two or more metal detectors at a distance down to approximately 2 in. from each other without using cables. Security Fog Technology

BLOCKS VISIBILITY USING FOG AND LIGHT

The security fog technology stops intruders and criminals by blocking all visibility through a combination of fog and light. The fog fills any room in about 20 seconds and is reinforced with a bright security strobe that pulsates 12 times per second. The fog is produced by forcing a glycol and water mixture through a heated block assembly. When the glycol fluid passes through the heat exchanger, it is broken down into droplets, which then create a rapidly dispersing vapor cloud. According to the supplier, the fog is safe to breathe and consists of food-grade ingredients. The vapor lasts 45 minutes and then evaporates with no residue. Light is supplied by a 1,500-watt Xenon strobe light that makes the fog glow. The light frequency was chosen because it never lets an intruder's eyes adjust. The fog can be deployed as a primary detection method or a last line of defense in secure environments. Possible applications include nuclear facilities, medical research centers, data and document protection, arsenals, research labs and warehouses. FlashFog, Arias Tech Ltd. (flashfogsecurity.com) Circle No. 16 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.

Product Focus

A CLOSER LOOK AT TURNSTILES

Full-Height Security Turnstile

FOR INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR USE

The full-height turnstile features double walkways for entry and/or exit and side walls constructed of a combination of steel posts and perforated steel “mesh” screens. The mesh screens replace the horizontal steel tubes that are typical in full-height turnstiles to reduce the ability to climb over the unit. Each vertical steel end-post and mid-post includes a lockable access panel on the interior of the post. The panel allows for easier integration of electronic security equipment, such as card readers, biometrics, intercoms and cameras. The turnstile also features lane availability and user-cueing icons to ensure maximum throughput and better communication. The unit provides for effective entrance control to restricted areas including fenced security areas, banks, warehouses, computer rooms, customs areas, airport technical zones and research centers. Model TRS-362 Full-Height Turnstile, Automatic Control Systems (automaticsystems.com) Circle No. 31 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.

Bidirectional Optical Turnstile

FEATURES CLIMB-OVER DETECTION

The turnstile now features climb-over detection as an option. The turnstile can function as a traditional optical turnstile or a barrier-type optical turnstile. When the system is used in “barrier mode,” its steel barrier arms act as an additional visual deterrent to unauthorized access. The turnstile authorizes entries using a Traffic Flow Indicator (TFI) that will light as a green arrow and direct the barriers to open with a chime sound. Unauthorized access attempts and tailgaters will be singled out by visual and audible alarms. The system also features a 14-in. gap anti-tailgating system and is equipped with crawl-through detection. Delta 7000-B, Delta Turnstile Controls (deltaturnstile.com) Circle No. 32 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.

Compact Optical Turnstiles

SOLVE SPACE LIMITATION ISSUES

The optical turnstiles provide high-security to users with limited space for the application. The pedestals form pedestrian walkways to controlled areas. They will monitor high throughput pedestrian traffic flow for up to 30 people per minute. To eliminate tailgating, equipped sensors ensure that only one person enters for each authorized ID card that is presented. The turnstiles are compatible with most card reader technologies and access control systems. Each individual must be granted access by the facility's access control system in order to pass between the pedestals without activating an alarm. ES840 Compact Turnstiles, Designed Security Inc. (dsigo.com) Circle No. 33 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.

Sleek Optical Turnstile

BLENDS INTO THE DESIGN OF USER LOBBIES

The optical turnstile is an addition to the supplier's Fastlane product series. It includes 14-in. tailgate detection with angel-wing style glass barriers that recess into the pedestals for authorized personnel. Each turnstile lane includes a microprocessor that is programmed with advanced neural network algorithms. The algorithms allow the turnstiles to catch intruders attempting to sneak into a building while ignoring non-human objects such as briefcases, umbrellas and other objects that can trigger alarms. The turnstile blends into the fabric of attractive government and corporate lobbies to avoid a “mass transit” appearance.
