The CM5500 Series of electromechanical mortise-style locksets run on four AA batteries, eliminating hard wiring and simplifying installation and retrofits. The batteries can power up to 80,000 activations. Manufactured by Locknetics Security Engineering, Forestville, Conn., the microprocessor-controlled locking system is designed for applications at universities, hospitals, airports, offices and retail facilities. A 1-inch deadbolt employs a mechanical trigger to automatically engage the deadbolt when the door is closed.

A strap locking device secures two opposing bands on a pallet, preventing tampering without recognition. ToppClipps, manufactured by Consolidated Graphic Materials Inc., Somerset, N.J., are sequentially numbered and custom-made for each client to help prevent replication and replacement. The clips are secured with conventional crimping and tensioning tools. The starter kit includes a hole punch for adding a loop-type wire seal into the clip.

The ECR-2 SmartScan countermeasure receiver detects all types of RF bugging devices, says maker Multiscope Associates, Guilford, Conn. The true-spectrum-based analyzer can be operated from a notebook or desktop computer. The Sweep/Save/Compare function allows for fast, efficient continual or repeat sweeps by eliminating common signals, according to Multiscope. One sweep achieves a range of several thousand feet. The system comes with all needed accessories, and a hard-shell shipping/carrying container is optional.

Two extended versions of vertical rod and latch guards cover the width of 3- and 4-foot doors. The guards are designed to protect the bottom rod of a vertical rod-exit device from damage caused by carts or gurneys. The latch guards, offered by the Von Duprin Division of Ingersoll-Rand Co., Indianapolis, are 10 inches from the bottom edge of the door and feature a 45-degree ramp.

The Delta 3546 NP Series incorporates a micro-controller, which combines a digital computer and inductive vehicle loop technology for measuring, counting or detecting vehicles, and providing a controlling logic for parking gates, sliding gates, roll-up doors, motorized traffic controllers, bollards and other vehicle barricades. In case of power interruptions, the NP Series is programmed to prevent a closing signal when power is resumed. The unit is one of 12 versions of digital vehicle loop detectors manufactured by Delta Scientific Corp., Valencia, Calif.

The 5000 series electric strikes have a 11/16-inch setback for low-profile installations, but are strong enough for high-security applications, according to the maker, Hanchett Entry Systems Inc., Phoenix. The 5000U electric strike is constructed of heavy-duty stainless steel, according to the company. The pivot and locking points are close to the point of force, allowing the force to be distributed throughout the inner structure and into the door frame, says Hanchett.

A "smart" power supply module, Model CC-8500, allows access control systems to operate heavy-duty locking devices used in commercial and government high-security applications, says maker Moniteq Research Laboratories Inc., Springfield, Va. The module supplies sufficient in-rush current to open locks and then limits the current to a level that holds the lock open and prevents damaging its solenoid, says the company. The company's line of stand-alone access control systems is described in a new catalog. The publication offers descriptions of the Crypto Code systems, keypads, card readers, memory chip readers and accessories.

An Aiphone video door-answering system includes a four-stroke chime, automatic LEDs, high-contrast color monitor and backlit call button, according to the Bellevue, Wash.-based company. The Color Sentry System also includes an instant-on feature that allows users to hear and see who is at the door before picking up the handset.

The CardAccess 495 security system offers multi-user operation. Other features of the Continental Instruments LLC, Edgewood, N.Y., system include user-configurable employee database; integrated alarm monitoring and relay control; video verification; customizable reports; ID badging; and operator activity and response logging. CardAccess 495 enhances the 450 model using existing hardware panels and readers of any encoding technology. Employing field panels, the unit can support 512 doors and 50,000 card holders, monitor 10,000 supervised alarm inputs and control 9,000 form C relay outputs. Relays and monitor points can be linked, assigned time zones and configured to latch, time-out, toggle or follow a schedule.

The ES100 electric strike has a fail secure/fail open feature and is reversible in 45 seconds, says the manufacturer, Trimec Inc., Westlake, Ohio. The strike has a low profile (11/8 backset), 3,000 pounds of holding force and has been tested to 1,000,000 cycles. The UL-listed unit also has a continuously rated solenoid, with 12v and 24v DC versions available. An adhesive installation template is also included.

The QuickNetwork panel provides distribution of voice, data, TV, CATV, SATV, CCTV and modulated and other electronic signals. The panel is manufactured by Intelligent Electronic Solutions (IES) Inc., Sandy, Utah. A punch-down-style twisted pair distribution hub supports 12 zones and can connect to a key service unit or PBX through a built-in amphenol/telco connector. The hub will distribute signals from a key service unit and telephone line at the same time. A field-changeable surge suppression module can be added.

A 24-hour, real-time network security monitor for Windows NT is available from Intrusion Detection Inc., New York. The Kane Security Monitor (KSM) identifies security violations caused by outside hackers or inside authorized users and notifies security personnel through e-mail, fax, pager or audible alarm. KSM analyzes NT security event logs on NT servers and workstations and provides centralized collection of audit information, detects security abuse patterns and uses NT's event reporting ability.

A contactless smart card reader, GemAccess, has been designed for physical access control applications. Offered by Gemplus, Montgomeryville, Pa., the reader can be used with the GCL8K contactless card and the GemTwin 8K or 64K smart cards, which combine contact and contactless technologies. Contactless cards transmit transaction data and record the data they receive when passed within 8-10 centimeters of the reader. The cards can carry bar code, magnetic stripe and biometric technologies.

A fire alarm panel has digital communication capabilities and built-in, dual-phone-line connectors. Manufactured by Detection Systems Inc., Fairport, N.Y., the DS9400 is a microprocessor-based fire alarm control/communicator panel. The four-zone panel supports up to 20 conventional detectors per zone, and can be expanded to eight zones for a total of 160 two-wire smoke detectors. Two appliance circuits provide up to 4 amps of 24v power to operate horns, strobes, bells and other notification devices. The UL-listed device also features on-board and remote programming over phone lines and a 100-event log.

Chicago Lock Co., Chicago, offers a tamper-evident key ring for key accountability. KeyLOC fits a flexible, vinyl-coated steel cable into an ACEII Cylinder nested in a lightweight housing. Designed to eliminate the loss or the duplication of keys by an unauthorized person, KeyLOC holds from 10 to 50 keys and opens only to an authorized key. The vinyl-clad steel cable is the same type used in the aircraft industry, says the maker. Key ring loops are available in three sizes, 4-, 6- and 9-inch.

The Sure Exit request-to-exit bar requires a slight touch by any object, including clothes, gloves, prosthesis, hip, briefcase, package, cane or wheelchair, says maker Security Door Controls, Westlake Village, Calif. Other features include Tri-Fail-Safe operation with two redundant sensors and a third automatic emergency release switch that bypasses the electronics and ensures continued door operation. The unit operates in conditions ranging from 0 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit and has an auxiliary output for alarm shunt, CCTV activation or annunciators.
