Detect intruders ranging from a slow-moving individual to a high-speed vehicle with the Portable Reconfigurable Line Sensor (PRLS). Developed by Sandia National Laboratories and manufactured by Racon, Seattle, the PRLS Series can be used for perimeter or specific asset security in applications on concrete, pavement, grass, gravel and dirt surfaces. Using radio frequency technology, the unit has 50 separate field-selectable operating channels and is tolerant of eight-foot terrain depressions. Detection ranges can be adjusted from 50 to 500 feet with detection speeds ranging from one inch per second to 70 mph. The system comes with PC combatible software for remote commands such as configuration, commissioning documentation, diagnostics and other routine operatons. The PRLS Series uses technology that is digitally addressable via RS232C/RS485 interface.

Ensure that premises have been patrolled, and generate audit trails and other data with the Security Plus System (SPS), offered by MacSema, Bend, Ore. A guard on tour uses a ButtonWand to read ButtonMemory units, recording the date and time of the visit. The memory units are less than an inch in diameter, have a variety of mounting options and can withstand extreme weather conditions. After a tour is completed, the information is downloaded into a IBM-compatible PC with at least a 386 processor. With SPS software, a variety of reports can be generated, including the number of locations checked, locations missed and incidents.

Monitor security equipment from remote locations using wireless data communications. Standard, a subsidiary of Philips Electronics, is the supplier of the Cellemetry Modem Module, which uses BellSouth's Cellemetry signaling technology. The modem modules contain the necessary elements to access the Cellemetry system, including radio receiver, transmitter, controller and data modem. Once the radio modem is installed in a piece of equipment, it transmits information about the equipment's operation to cellular base stations, which forward the data to the Cellemetry gateway, which then provides the link to the control/monitoring system. The Cellemetry platform transparently employs the existing cellular network for the transmission of data.
