Parole board selects verification system by The Biometric Solutions Group

A statewide probationer and parolee appointment verification system for use at adult probation and parole offices throughout Utah has been deployed by The Biometric Solutions Group, Charleston, S.C. The system can quickly confirm the identity of probationers and parolees during mandatory visits using digital fingerprint identification.

WorldCom, managers of large Internet protocol networks, has employed digital surveillance technology by Salient Systems Corp., Austin, Texas, to monitor activities at its Web server data centers.

The Hill School, Pottstown, Pa., an independent boarding school, has selected Computrace, a PC tracking and loss control service provided by Absolute Software, Vancouver, Canada. The school needed a way to trace its laptop computers, which are issued to all students and faculty.

Her Majesty's Prison Service, Britain, has chosen the MicroSearch product by ENSCO Inc., Springfield, Va., for use in managing and searching vehicular traffic. The product is a database system that determines whether human beings are present in vehicles using sensor systems and signal processing techniques.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, Ala., has awarded Johnson Controls, Milwaukee, a five-year contract to design and install integrated electronic security systems.

Checkpoint Systems Inc., Thorofare, N.J., has been awarded a contract by The Warehouse Group Ltd., New Zealand's largest retail group with 75 discount stores. Checkpoint will install its Radio Frequency Electronic Article Surveillance systems, replacing existing acousto-magnetic technology systems.

A public high school in San Diego will install a pilot remote access school monitoring and safety system by Media Concepts Inc., Los Angeles. The digital system supports remote access monitoring to ensure student safety and security.

Fingerprint security solutions by Precise Biometrics, Lund, Sweden, will be introduced at GWK, the Netherlands' largest currency exchange company. The new system will replace PIN codes and user IDs with simple fingerprint login to the company's network.

A provider of cargo screening devices has been seeing enormous interest in its products in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. OSI Systems, Santa Monica, Calif., reports that a foreign customs agency has ordered two of its Rapiscan 546 Dual View Large Cargo systems, representing approximately $1.7 million in sales. The scanning systems have gained interest for use in preventing the infiltration of drugs, weapons and other contraband. The systems will be installed in two major transportation hubs and should be completely operational by next March. The scanners are designed for locations such as air- and seaports, customs facilities, mail, freight or courier service installations, handling air cargo pallets to truck loads as large as 10.5 feet high and 10.5 feet wide, with a maximum weight of 60 tons.
