The PATHVISION system functions as a true client/server system with distributed data storage and processing using industry standard methodologies. The network is a TCP/IP-based Windows network with standard Ethernet connections to the fiber optic network nodes. The servers use Microsoft Windows NT Server as the operating system with Microsoft SQL server as the database back end. The client machines use Microsoft Windows NT workstation as the operating system and use distributed environment development tools such as Microsoft Visual Basic and Visual C++ for the front end processing software. HTML and XML data formats (including JPEG, GIF and Flash graphics) are used for packaging the real-time content for presentation. The displays are monitors by Sony, JVC and Vicon, plus 42-in. flat panel displays by Eiki.
