The ID-100 identification system, designed for high-volume applications, includes a built-in electronic flash, removable validation plate, one- or two-up capability, a card laminator and an electronic information panel that guides the operator through the steps for creating photo ID cards. A portable system, the ID-200, combines portrait, data and signature on a single piece of film. Manufacturer Polaroid, Bedford, Mass., has announced price cuts on both units.

TXP Trans-Kote Film, a heavy-gauge, thermal-laminating film for identification cards, provides protection from wear and tear, according to Transilwrap Company Inc., Chicago. A non-oriented polyester film, TXP (Transilwrap extruded product) features lay-flat characteristics that prevent curling from the corners after repeated use, says the maker. In ISO-specified tests, the cards endured more than 100,000 flexes, according to the manufacturer.

WinBadge NT for Windows NT workstations is designed for large-scale production of tamper-resistant photo identification cards, according to Goddard Technology Corp., Greenville, S.C. The database access module uses Structured Query Language and ODBC to access most of the major, market-leading databases. Images are stored in industry-standard JPEG format to allow use by other applications. The configurable and customizable software offers translucent images for additional badge security; it can be upgraded to maintain entry/exit logs and track badge usage. WinBadge NT prevents unauthorized access at the operating-system level, says the supplier.

The IMPRESA II high-speed, compact ID card printer offers four-color, dye-sublimation, edge-to-edge printing of PVC cards in 25 seconds (140 cards per hour), says maker Plastic Card Systems Inc., Marlboro, Mass. Designed for continuous, high-volume production, the printer also provides resin-thermal-transfer monochrome printing of up to 1,000 cards per hour. A two-line, LCD display indicates system status. Cards may be personalized with 24-bit color photo images, backgrounds, logos, true-type fonts and bar codes. Magnetic stripe and smart card encoding are optional. Windows 3.1x, 95 and NT drivers are standard.

PhotoRecall Deluxe 2.0 allows users to build an easy-to-manage image library, says maker G&A Imaging, Hull, Quebec, Canada. According to the maker, the new version offers 50 features, including dynamic interface with improved organizational features and more album styles; sound files; custom printing; six user-definable data fields; a Web-publishing utility; a screen-saver utility; an enhanced Portable Player for e-mailing albums; an improved instant-slide-show tool; a WebCrawler Internet search utility; support for PhotoDisc's PowerPics site; Kodak PhotoNet; and updated darkroom features.

When a visitor arrives at a PhotoLobby-equipped building, the device captures his or her name, voice, photo and signature, according to maker Systems Technologies, Lyndhurst, South Africa. The system will print a label containing the visitor's name, picture and details such as the identity and location of the person visited.
