Readers Track City Hall Visitors

Los Angeles' City Hall Building has been secured with fingerprint readers to restrict access to the mayor's office and city council chambers.

Using V-Pass fingerprint-only readers from Bioscrypt Inc., Toronto, enables the City Hall building to increase convenience and security while lowering costs of maintenance and administration.

“We have private entrances to high-profile locations that are regularly used by the mayor and many of the city's top executives and staff — the mayor's office and our city council chambers. These are interior locations in secure buildings, but in the past, the entrances had to be staffed with guards. It is the ideal place to use fingerprint biometrics for access control,” says Dwayne Healy, administrative section head of the Department of General Services, Security Services Division for the City of Los Angeles. The division provides security services to more than 900 public facilities — nearly 75 percent of the city's buildings.

“You can just imagine how fast a live guard recognizes the mayor and other top city officials,” Healy continues. “If you are managing the government in a city this large, every second counts, and you certainly do not expect any delays or hiccups entering your own offices.”
