Occupation: Director of security and transportation services, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Ga.

Prior professional experience: Started in food nutrition at the hospital in 1972 and transferred to a security officer position after one year. I worked as a security shift director and assistant security director before accepting my present position.

Education: Received Security Executive Certification and Healthcare Security Executive Certification from Security Management Institute, Charlotte, N.C.

Professional affiliations: ASIS, International Association for Healthcare Security, Georgia Association of Police Chiefs.

Personal: Married to Mattie, with three children, Brandon, 4; Edwin Jr., 19; and Edquanda, 22.

Leisure activities: Running, playing

drums and watching football on television.

Quality you admire in others: A willingness to listen and be open to ideas. People inspire me.

One word that best describes you: Open-minded.

Most treasured material possessions: Full contact karate trophies for state title in super middleweight and for middleweight divisions, and an Olympic torch.

Greatest challenge: Continue to change and re-make myself as the security industry re-makes itself.

Hero: My mother; I grew up in a family of 12 children without a father.

Motto: Every problem has a solution.

Goals for the future: Have the security department become completely automated and to use technology to its fullest to aid my staff in their jobs. Staff includes 17 unarmed security officers, five armed security officers and 12 valets who are cross-trained in customer service and security.
