SPOTLIGHT: Kaba Mas Gitcon Series

With cargo theft increasing both in the United States and abroad, the importance of securing goods-in-transit grows. According to Steve Pollack, director of marketing for Kaba Mas, cargo security “is not where it should be,” but he hopes to get it there with a new product line from Kaba Mas. “The bottom line is anybody responsible for shipping a product is losing cargo,” Pollack says. “Traditional padlocks are becoming only moderately effective,” he adds, “and there is a need for additional access control when cargo is on the move.” Kaba Mas' new lock and access control series, Gitcon, is aimed at solving the problem.

The Gitcon series includes three products. The G-50 is an externally mounted mechanical slamlock for use in cargo containers that have either swinging or roll-up doors. The G-152 is a permanently mounted electro-mechanical container security system with access control, audit, physical security and route management systems, and the G-2 is an access control system that attaches to container hardware and allows users to monitor entry and exit through access control software.

Each product has been engineered to meet ISO and PAS requirements of high security seals. The G-152 and G-2 electrified products include customizable features to set access rules, log entry and exit actions and monitor seal status. The G-50 lock is constructed of high-grade stainless steel to withstand harsh environments and unauthorized tampering. The G-50 also offers an interchangeable core cylinder to accommodate re-keying.
