Your Security Director's Mantra: Be Prepared

Is your organization in an area prone to Hurricanes? Earthquakes? Floods? Ever thought your company and its employees could be stranded at the office? The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) says the best course of action in preparation for natural disaster is to create an emergency supply kit. Here's an emergency supply checklist:

• A BATTERY-POWERED COMMERCIAL RADIO plus a radio that can receive weather alerts from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA.

• COPIES OF IMPORTANT RECORDS such as site maps, building plans, insurance policies, employee contact and identification information, bank account records, supplier and shipping contact lists, computer backups in a waterproof, fireproof portable container. Store a second set of records at an off-site location.

• WATER: one gallon of water per person.

• FOOD: at least a three-day supply.

• FLASHLIGHT, batteries and basic tools

• FIRST AID KIT

• WHISTLE to signal for help

• DUST MASK to help filter the air

• MOIST TOWELETTES for sanitation

• CAN OPENER

• STURDY SHOES, EXTRA CLOTHES AND BLANKETS

• CASH
