More than 500 attendees gathered recently in Denver for the week-long PSA 2003 Conference, where corporate management, operations managers, salespeople, project managers and technicians from PSA member companies took advantage of in-depth training and networking.
“The educational resources and the information available were outstanding,” said Brian Sullivan, general manager of Pass Systems Group, St. Louis, who was attending his first PSA Conference.
Held at the Renaissance Denver Hotel, the conference featured keynote speeches by industry leaders, seminars, hands-on classes, new product demonstrations, a trade show exhibition and a formal awards banquet.
The keynote speakers were Sal Lifrieri and Jeff Kessler. Lifrieri served as director of security and intelligence operations for Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's Office of Emergency Management from 1996 through 2001. His speech focused on threat assessment and the consulting process. Kessler, senior vice president of Lehman Brothers Inc., New York, shared insights into the business of security, financial outlooks and trends.
Focusing on the business and technology of system integration, the conference's classes included frontline project management; integration selling; estimating for the security integrator; advanced access control system design; and the psychology of successful negotiating. During the business meetings, Les Gold of Mitchell Silberberg and Knupp addressed owners on the current climate of mergers and acquisitions, and Chuck Durant, president of the Security and Life Safety Group of GE Interlogix, shared his thoughts on industry consolidation.
The Friday trade show featured more than 75 vendors who demonstrated products, such as integrated systems, access control, biometrics, CCTV and video over the Internet. The show gave way to the Vendor Appreciation Awards Banquet, where PSA honored vendors with awards for supporting PSA and its members.
For the second year, PSA held the Tech Symposium, moderated by Sandra Jones of Sandra Jones and Co., Chardon, Ohio. Participants heard about new products and technologies from a variety of companies.
The 2003 PSA Conference and Exhibits was only open to PSA members. Security system integrators interested in joining PSA should contact Michelle Medina, vice president of business development at 800-525-9422 x115.
