SIA Board of Directors favors collaboration over unification
Mar 1, 2001 12:00 PM
The Security Industry Association (SIA) has issued a resolution regarding the association's official position on unification with other security associations.
The resolution was drafted during SIA's February board of directors meeting. According to the resolution, SIA will support inter-association collaboration on education, legislative and marketing initiatives. The resolution is as follows:
“On February 5, 2001, by majority vote, the Security Industry Association Board of Directors resolves to work with other industry associations to achieve a unified approach in expanding installer education, addressing legislative issues and driving product demand. Further the SIA Board of Directors resolves that at this time there is no need to restructure SIA to successfully accomplish these objectives.”
Associations representing the security industry include SIA, the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), and the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA).
The three associations had discussed a possible merger into a single association.
In November, the executive committee of the SIA hosted a meeting with representatives of ADT Security Services, Brinks Home Security, Security Link from Ameritech, Honeywell, and Protection One. During the meeting representatives from each company expressed interest in the formation of a single industry association to represent the entire electronic security industry.
