Protect Yourself at Wi-Fi Hotspots!
Every time you connect at a Wi-Fi hotspot, you're asking for trouble, according to Networking Pipeline. Hotspots are open networks that do not use encryption, which invites hacking and snooping. Here are 10 TIPS to protect yourself:
Disable Wi-Fi ad-hoc mode
Use a wireless Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Use an encrypted USB flash drive
Use a personal firewall
Turn off file sharing
Make sure the hotspot is legitimate
Disable or remove your wireless
adapter if you're working offlineUse e-mail encryption.
Make sure nobody is peering over your shoulder to watch what you're typing
Don't leave your laptop alone, because laptop thefts are becoming increasingly common at hotspots.
