A Tale of Two Campuses

Sage Colleges in New York have installed digital CCTV equipment from GE Interlogix's Kalatel division, Corvallis, Ore., at their Albany and Troy campuses. “We wanted extra sets of eyes and ears and, like many institutions, our staffing levels were not what we might want,” says Bob Grebert, director of public safety for Sage Colleges. “Since these are urban campuses, there is a lot of non-college traffic on campus that needs to be monitored. I also want to see the Albany campus from Troy.”

International Built-in Systems, Albany, N.Y., installed seven Kalatel tamper-resistant day/night CyberDome cameras and four fixed cameras for the Troy campus, while the Albany campus was given five CyberDomes and four fixed cameras.

The CyberDome cameras switch automatically between color mode for daytime and a more sensitive monochrome for nighttime. Since the system is tied into The Sage Colleges' wide-area network (WAN), camera shots from both campuses can be viewed from either campus' control room or any other authorized location on the WAN. Grebert can even view the campuses from home, using his own laptop.
