This year, look for more well-known information technology companies to show up at ASIS, as the physical and logical security markets continue to converge. While strolling through ASIS International 2007 at the Las Vegas Convention Center Sept. 24 through 27, look for these products from IT providers, among others.
Fingerprint Screening System
COMPLIANT WITH FEDERAL SCREENING REQUIREMENTS
LexisNexis has teamed up with Cross Match Technologies, a provider of 10-print digital Live Scan systems, to offer a Live Scan screening system that captures high-quality fingerprint images through a secure, national network that is compliant with all FBI and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requirements. Users are provided with a simple process for obtaining, processing and reporting fingerprint-based background checks. The system also captures demographic information for employee credentialing, access control and visitor management. Criminal history reporting is possible through a Full Service Screening Report, and users may define criteria for automated decisions based on their organizations hiring policies. See the system at the LexisNexis ASIS booth (#4507). Fingerprint Screening, LexisNexis (lexisnexis.com/screening/fullservice) Circle No. 1 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.
Computer-Aided Dispatch System
FOR CALL CENTER AND CONTROL ROOM OPERATORS
The Computer-Aided Dispatch (I/CAD) system from Intergraph Corp. provides tools to field calls, create and update incidents and manage critical resources through real-time interaction of data. System modules include: I/Calltaker, which provides tools to answer emergency calls, verify locations, enter incident information and forward calls to operators; I/QA (Question and Answer), which guides the calltaker through a situation, allowing him or her to assess and prioritize the call; and I/Dispatcher, which gives operators the power to dispatch emergency response units to incident locations and to monitor incident status. Security Management Software
CONTROLS AND MONITORS SECURITY SYSTEMS
The IPSecurityCenter, offered through IBM partner Computer Network Ltd., allows organizations to control, monitor and maintain all security systems and assets. The system integrates CCTV, intruder alarm, fire alarm, access control, personal alarm, building management, digital recording and business systems for management and visibility through a graphical user interface. Users can create automated response plans; initiate SMS, mobile phone and pager automated alerting; view location maps for visual and audio alert verification; analyze and create reports for system, process and operator performance, and conduct remote monitoring. Identity Management System
MANAGES ACCESS CONTROL, ALARM MONITORING AND BADGING SYSTEMS
Honeywell has integrated Novell's flagship product, the Identity Manager (pictured), into its own identity management system, the SmartPlus Identity Manager. The integrated system simplifies the process of manually assigning privileges and managing identity information across several existing systems within an organization. IT managers can automatically synchronize user data and passwords across multiple facilities and systems, maintain a single point of management for all users, update role changes and terminate user access. Physical access control, alarm monitoring and badging systems can all be managed through the platform. Learn more about the system in the Honeywell booth (#2313). Fault-Tolerant Servers
AID IN DISASTER RECOVERY CAPABILITIES
NEC's Express5800/320Ma Fault Tolerant (FT) servers can reduce the amount of system downtime to approximately five minutes or less per year. The servers offer 99.999 percent continuous availability for disaster recovery support. Three configurations are offered, including a fault tolerant dual-core processor, to provide users with a high availability system for complete redundancy in the event of a major disaster. NEC's ExpressCluster Disaster Recovery (DR) software protects systems from catastrophic events by connecting two FT servers hundreds of miles apart. The software's FastSync feature provides critical journaling capabilities, which can minimize database re-synchronization time, allowing for shorter recovery time on the FT servers. See the product at the NEC ASIS booth (#1079). Express5800/320Fc FT Server, NEC Corp. of America (necam.com) Circle No. 5 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.
External Device Server
MANAGES REMOTE EQUIPMENT WITH REAL-TIME REPORTING
The IntelliBox I/O from Lantronix is a programmable external device server that automates the task of managing remote equipment and reporting. Powered by EventTrak technology, the system enables users to connect their equipment to IP networks and the Internet to automatically monitor and respond to events in real-time without human intervention. When triggered by an event, the IntelliBox automatically responds with a pre-determined, user-defined set of responses that may include rebooting, reconfiguring attached equipment, turning a machine switch on or off, triggering a relay or alarm and/or providing automated reports. The system can send an e-mail to the user, notifying him or her of the situation and the corrective actions taken along with logged details. See IntelliBox at ASIS in the Lantronix booth (#1181).
